SCISWA Grant for Community Beautification

A $2000 grant from the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency has been applied to local community beautification efforts in the downtown area.  The hangers around the square that were added recently to hold the flower baskets are made from 100% recycled steel, and were designed and manufactured locally by Wilcox All-Pro Tools. The special grant program through the SCISWA supported this part of the project as qualifiying under a waste management and landfill reduction campaign.  Additional grant funds through Keep Iowa Beautiful will be applied towards completing this year's project, which includes an updated landscape plan around the gateway signage at each entrance to Montezuma.  In the fall, a grant through Paint Iowa Beautiful will enhance the facilities of the Poweshiek County Historical Society & Museum.

Special Thanks to July 4th Volunteers

A special thank you to Mark Lagaveen, and Clayton and LeAnn Hjelmeland for assisting in the coordination of the July 4th parade held last Saturday, and to radio station 89.7 FM KRNF for doing such a fine job announcing the parade and setting the tone for the day's events.  Thanks also goes to the Montezuma Firefighters, Boosters, Lions Club, Shooting Club, area businesses and organizations and many others that made this year's Let Freedom Ring Celebration a tremendous success!
